Leinster Football League semi-final

Our intermediate team travel to Carrickedmond, Co. Longford this Friday evening, May 10 for a Leinster Adult Football League Division 2 semi-final against the home side.

Throw in is 7.45pm with the winners meeting Daingean in the final. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Division 3 v Ballynacargy

We registered our second win on the trot in Division 3 of the All-County League away to Ballynacargy last Tuesday evening, May 1.

The final score in Moynihan Park was 0-11 to 1-4. A brace of points from Padraig Carton gave us an early lead before Bal’ fought back to lead 0-3 to 0-2 after 19 minutes. Mark Wrafter levelled a minute later before further scores from Micheál Coffey and James Finnegan pushed us two clear.

The hosts regained the lead with a 29th minute goal, but there was still time for us to get our noses in front, 0-7 to 1-3, before the break thanks to Finnegan and Coffey.

In a low-key second half, we restricted our opponents to just a single score as points from Finnegan (two) Coffey and Wrafter sealed the win.

Team: Joey O’Neill; Martin Ward, Josh Malone, Sean Hanlon; Conor Carroll, James Fox, Mark Wrafter; Brendan McMahon, Darragh Coffey; Danny Scully, Conor Delaney, Micheál Coffey; James Finnegan, Padraig Carton, Cathal Finn.

Division 6 v Multyfarnham

With numbers tight, our second team put up a great fight against Multyfarnham before succumbing to a 4-13 to 4-18 defeat at MJS Builds St James’ Park last Thursday evening.

Rugby ace Colm Heffernan started his first game for us in five years, while we won’t tell you how long it was since James Mullins – who came on in goals in the second half – last pulled on a maroon jersey!

After trailing 1-5 to 3-10 at the break, we rallied brilliantly after the restart with goals from James Finnegan and Darragh Coffey, who was relocated to midfield for the second half. But Multy always had that little bit of breathing space in what was a good old-fashioned shootout.

Team: Darragh Coffey; Kyle McMahon, Mark Sonner; Michael Joyce, Josh Malone, Arthur O’Rourke; Micheál Coffey, Mark Wrafter; Shane Gorry, James Finnegan, Finbar Coffey; Colm Heffernan, Sean Hanlon. Subs: Alan Fennell, Mel Kiernan and James Mullins.
