Juvenile pitch at Locke’s Distillery

A great start to 2025 with the news that we have been granted permission by the owners of Kilbeggan Whiskey to use their field at Locke’s Distillery as a juvenile pitch.

This is a huge boost at a time when our playing numbers have never been greater. As club members discovered when they were treated to a wonderful evening of whiskey tasting in November, a game of football between Kilbeggan Shamrocks and Carrick (Dalystown) was played on land owned by the Locke's family way back in 1891!

A big thank you to Kilbeggan Whiskey for agreeing to make this badly-needed extra ground available to us at no expense.

New selectors

Mark Sonner and Paul ‘Puddie’ Maloney will serve as selectors under our new intermediate manager Nigel Adamson this year.

Mark has been a super addition to the club since joining from Stewartstown Harps a few years back. He won a Westmeath JFC medal in 2023 at the age of 44 to add to his Tyrone IFC (2006), JFC (2005), and Division 3 League (2010), Ulster club JFC (2004) and All-Ireland Junior 7s (2005) honours.

Mark has an astute football brain and is also heavily involved as a coach with our nursery.

Meanwhile, ‘Puddie’ needs no introduction to anyone in Kilbeggan GAA. He has given the club fantastic service down through the years in a variety of roles. As a player, he won U16 ‘B’, IFC (2000) and JFC (2012) medals. He was also club registrar for a number of years and has assisted Joe Gorman with taking bookings for our Astroturf pitch in more recent times.

‘Puddie’ is a Kilbeggan man through and through who won’t be found wanting in his new role.

Lotto

The lucky numbers in our New Year’s draw were 1, 11, 24 and 27. Nigel Scally won €500 in the New Year’s bonus draw, while the Match 3 winners Niamh Gavin and Olive O’Neill won €40 each.

This week’s jackpot is €12,700. Make sure to buy tickets online or at Centra, Mace and Whelan’s.

Bereavements

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Carberry, McMahon, Scully, McCormack and Collins families on their sad losses over the Christmas period.
