The late Kitty Flynn
It’s the end of an era in Kilbeggan with the passing of Kitty Flynn, Upper Main Street last Saturday, January 11.
In her 99th year, Kitty was one of Kilbeggan’s oldest, most knowledgeable and respected residents. She was a wonderful person who we will be forever indebted to for penning our club history in the early 1990s. Kitty was also part of a committee that organised the 50th anniversary reunion in Locke’s Distillery for our 1959 double JFC and JHC winners. Ironically, she was part of a local group responsible for restoring the Distillery in the 1980s and turning it into the popular tourist attraction it is today.
Age was just a number to Kitty who received a degree in Community & Family Studies from NUI Galway in 2014, learning how to use a laptop in the process! Kilbeggan will certainly be a poorer place without Kitty who witnessed many changes to her beloved town over the past century.
Kitty will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her family and a wide circle of friends. She was the most amazing human being and a remarkable woman.
May she rest in peace.

Well done to Padraig Carton on helping TUS Midlands (formerly Athlone IT) to a dramatic 2-18 to 0-21 extra-time victory over a fancied University of Maynooth side in the opening round of the Sigerson Cup last Saturday night.
TUS Midlands will face MTU Cork in the next round.
Westmeath U16 selection
Congratulations to Ava Rochford on being selected for the Westmeath U16 ladies football panel. A great achievement for one of our brightest prospects who has worked hard on her game in recent years.
