Ladies v Cill Óige

Our ladies made it three wins from four in Division 5 of the League thanks to a strong second half performance against Cill Óige last Wednesday evening in St James’ Park.

A hat-trick of goals from Susan Kiernan – who recently returned from Australia after 15 years – and further majors from Laura Murphy and Grace Maloney helped us to a 5-7 to 1-7 victory. Kiernan and Murphy netted early on to give us a 2-0 to 0-3 lead before the visitors fought back to regain parity, 1-6 to 2-3, at the break.

But with the wind behind us in the second half, we never looked back after substitute Grace Maloney’s goal from a penalty propelled us into a 2-6 to 1-7 lead.

Team: Debbie Ennis; Olivia Wrafter, Orla Brennan, Emma Rafferty; Abbie Coffey, Chloe Ruane, Aislinn Carey; Emma Murphy, Tara Dennehy; Ava Rochford, Laura Murphy, Mary Gardiner; Chloe Gannon, Susan Kiernan, Aoife Finn. Subs: Jill Draper, Grace Maloney, Aoibhín Jackson, Anna Wrafter, Carol McCabe, Maria Haritonceva.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 6, 7, 18 and 27. There was no jackpot winner. The Match 3 winners were Dolores Kelly and Keith Corcoran.

This week’s jackpot is €8,150. Make sure to buy your tickets online or at Centra, Mee's Costcutter and Whelan’s. Tickets are also on sale outside Centra every Saturday and Sunday. Thank you for your continued support.

Race Day

The unseasonably cold weather didn’t dampen spirits at last Friday’s Race Day at Kilbeggan Races which proved to be a resounding success.

As usual, it was an evening of glitz and glamour as we honoured our back-to-back ladies junior and intermediate champions from 2004 and ’05. Special presentations were made to each of the team members in the parade ring before the Best Dressed Lad and Lady were crowned. This year’s winners were James McHugh and Emma Flynn.

All the while, the Marquee rocked to the sound of the brilliant Jiggers of Éireann. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Stephen Heffernan and Kilbeggan Races for being incredible hosts as always, and everyone who supported and attended. Finally, a big thank you to Kelly Ann Mealiffe, Colin Draper and Martina Rochford for organising the event. Looking forward to next year’s Race Day already!

Leinster champion

Congratulations to Becky Scally and her Westmeath ladies football team-mates on winning the Leinster Intermediate Championship in Newbridge last Saturday.
