LGFA Junior Championship v St Loman’s
A dominant first half display laid the foundations for a 5-13 to 1-10 victory over St Loman’s in Round 2 of the LGFA Junior Championship at Dovida Lakepoint Park last Friday evening.
Aíne Pettit's first-minute goal set the tone as we went on to lead by 5-9 to 1-2 at the break. With the game over as a contest, we emptied the bench in the second half as thoughts now turn to a local derby against Tyrrellspass in St James’ Park this Friday at 6.30pm.
Eager to build on a fine opening round win over Cill Óige, we started strongly to lead by 1-5 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter thanks to Pettit’s early goal and points from Anna Wrafter, Grace Maloney and Aoibhín Jackson. The hosts pulled a goal back in the 17th minute before we responded with an unanswered 4-4 before half-time.
In what was the best quarter of football produced by our ladies for some time, Aíne Pettit got the ball rolling with a quickfire 1-1. Grace Maloney added a third goal before Susan Kiernan raised two more green flags. Pettit and Emma Murphy (free) added points to leave us perched on an unassailable lead at the interval.
Further points from captain Chloe Ruane, Jackson and Kiernan extended our advantage to 5-12 to 1-3 after the restart before St Loman’s staged a mini-comeback. Maloney tagged on another point near the end to complete an impressive night’s work.
We wish Jill Brabazon a speedy recovery after she was carried off injured early in the game.

Junior 1 Football Championship v Bunbrosna
Not to be outdone, our men’s team made it three wins from three in the Junior 1 Football Championship following a workmanlike performance against Bunbrosna in Castletown-Geoghegan last Saturday evening.
Jack Molloy’s 38th minute goal proved to be the decisive score as we ran out 1-14 to 0-12 winners. Cillian Rochford gave us an early lead, only for Bun’ to grab the next two points. However, it was the only time they led as we gradually asserted ourselves with points from captain Nigel Scally (four frees), Darragh Coffey (two) and Rochford to take a 0-9 to 0-7 lead into the break.
After Bun’ equalised early in the second half, we responded with another Coffey point and a palmed goal from Molloy after Padraig Carton centred to go 1-10 to 0-8 up. Further points from Rochford (two), Scally (free) and man of the match Coffey sealed the win over a battling Bunbrosna side who we drew with in the League.
Next up in Round 4 is a local derby against St Joseph’s on Sunday week in Rochfortbridge (time to be confirmed).
Team: Conor Mullins; Martin Ward, Colin Draper, Mark Wrafter; Jacob Browne, Shaun Pidgeon, Joey O’Neill; Darragh Coffey, Ray Kennedy; David Fennell, Nigel Scally, Cillian Rochford; Jack Molloy, Padraig Carton, James Finnegan. Subs: Danny Scully, Conor Delaney, Dean Fitzgerald, Micheál Coffey, Niall Rabbitte, Keith Corcoran, Davin Egan.
