Junior 1 Football Championship v St Joseph’s
We play St Joseph’s in Round 4 of the Junior 1 Football Championship in Kinnegad next Friday, August 28 at 8pm.
With three wins from our opening three games, we hope to keep the momentum going ahead of our last group match against St Paul’s. All support for the lads would be greatly appreciated.
LGFA Junior Championship Round 3 v Tyrrellspass
After winning their first two games, our ladies suffered their first defeat in this year’s Junior Championship at home to local rivals Tyrrellspass last Friday evening.
Leading by 3-3 to 2-4 at half-time after playing with the wind, we could only manage three points in the second half as the visitors fought back to run out 4-12 to 3-6 winners. We had an opportunity to level from a penalty with 13 minutes remaining, but Grace Maloney’s shot flew narrowly over the crossbar and the visitors scored an unanswered 1-4 thereafter to make sure of victory.
Despite the absence of Fiona Dixon, Jill Brabazon and Fiona Claffey from our defence, we started strongly and opened up a 2-1 to 0-1 lead after seven minutes thanks to an early Susan Kiernan point and a quickfire brace of goals from Maloney. Tyrrellspass replied with a goal and a point before Ciara Heavin raised our third green flag to make it 3-1 to 1-2 after 11 minutes.
Laura Murphy (free) and Aíne Pettit added points either side of a second Tyrrellspass goal to leave us two up at the break.
Pettit was on target again shortly after the restart, but the ‘Tidy Town’ were building up a head of steam and soon led by 3-8 to 3-4. Another Murphy free left a goal in it before we had to settle for a point from the penalty after Susan Kiernan was fouled. As so often is the case, it proved to be a big turning point as thoughts now turn to Round 4 against Shandonagh on September 4.
It’s still all to play for as the business end looms!

Kieran Daly
Congratulations are extended to Kieran Daly, Harbour Road on winning the 'Overcoming Adversity' accolade at the Ireland Blue Light Awards in The Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin recently.
Kieran, who has autism, was chosen from over 170 nominees for overcoming the additional challenges he faced whilst training to become a paramedic. He has since turned that experience into a strength using his insight, intelligence and empathy to deliver exceptional patient care and show other neurodivergent people what is possible within a frontline career.
Kieran has served us well both as a team medic and a referee, and is looking forward to taking up the whistle again next year.
