U14 champions

There were joyous scenes in Springfield last Sunday when our fantastic U14 boys were crowned county champions following a 2-9 to 2-7 victory over St Paul’s.

Sam Whelehan’s second half brace of goals proved decisive as we edged a thrilling Division 6 Championship final after taking a 0-5 to 0-4 lead into the break. A late St Paul’s green flag set up a nervy finish, but we held on to win what was by far our toughest game of the championship.

Surrounded by his jubilant team-mates, captain and full back Evan Ryan was presented with the Division 6 Shield afterwards and the celebrations continued back in Kilbeggan where the team and their mentors were afforded a hero’s welcome home. This success was our first as a sole club in many years and will hopefully inspire everyone else as the hard work continues at underage level.
